FastSat - Network Acceleration Product


The FastSat network acceleration product aims at ensuring the competitiveness of the broadband interactive communication by satellite. It lowers the cost per bit transferred, by optimising the use of the available bandwidth and maximizing the number of users that can be supported on the satellite link. It also reduces the transfer time and latency experienced by these users. It relies on a mixture of leading edge technologies such as:

  • The Performance Enhancing Proxy EP dramatically improves the end-to-end TCP performance when traversing networks with long Latency, large Bandwidth Delay Product (BDP), high Bit Error Rate (BER), asymmetric Bandwidth Links or variable Bandwidth, which are exactly the conditions typical of multimedia satellite access network.
  • Accurate Space Link Capacity Matching allows matching the space link capacity. The rate control parameters are constantly and automatically adjusted according to the bandwidth variations (e.g. due to Bandwidth on Demand).
  • Web Page Acceleration mitigates the transmission delay experienced by the end-users when downloading complex Web pages. Embedded objects required for page rendering are pre-fetched and cached on the Terminal side thereby anticipating on the subsequent browser requests and eliminating numerous round trip times.
  • Sophisticated Adaptive Data Compression further optimises the available bandwidth usage and accelerates the data transfer. It delivers the best compression ratio while not wasting processing power.
